Infant & Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Assessment Guide

Picture

At our May FLCA meeting we put together emergency kits as our initial step to being a part of the Emergency Preparedness here in Florida. Thank you, Mary Becker, for being the chairperson for this committee. Thank you to the Board members who reached out to get supplies for the kits and to the members who assisted in preparing them.

Our webmaster, Mary Buskohl-Coulton participated in a recent zoom meeting with North Carolina SAFE Team regarding lessons they learned when they were starting and what their organization does to help those affected by disasters. They are excited to share their endeavors so that more are involved and the families who are affected by disasters can get the help they need. Mary Buskohl-Coulton is signed up for the below training. One step closer in making a difference in the lives of those in our communities.

NC SAFE is excited to share that they’re launching a new 11-month virtual training series, “Nourishing Resilience: SAFE Infant Feeding in Crisis,” beginning Tuesday, September 9 at 1 PM ET. Sessions will continue on the second Tuesday of each month at 1 PM, running through July 2026.
This series is a grant-funded educational opportunity for healthcare providers, lactation and childbirth professionals, first responders, community health workers, volunteers, and anyone invested in emergency preparedness for infants and young children.
This series is entirely virtual, highly interactive, and designed to give you the tools, frameworks, and confidence to support feeding during emergencies in your own communities.
This project is made possible with support from the Marcia Brady Tucker Foundation. We’re honored to bring these workshops to the broader public health, emergency response, and maternal/infant care communities.
